On Thursday, February 22, the San Diego North Economic Development Council held its first Chairman’s Dinner for 2024 at the TERI Campus of Life in San Marcos. The event – hosted by SDNEDC’s 2023-2024 Chairman, Jim Callaghan Jr. – brought together 35 C-Suite leaders from prominent North County businesses including LEGOLAND California Resort, Palomar College, MiraCosta College, CSUSM, Viasat, Homestreet Bank, C.W. Driver, Sea Breeze Properties, and more. These invitation-only events serve to strengthen connections among North County’s business leaders.
The event featured a briefing by U.S. Representative Scott Peters, currently representing San Marcos and portions of Escondido. He discussed his efforts on federal issues affecting San Diego like his work on the Commerce Committee, improving border infrastructure, advancing life science innovation, and making efficient the transition to renewable energy.
“I love my job because I get to work on big problems. I’m dedicated to making sure this region is taken care of,” Congressman Peters said. “It’s such an honor to work for this district.”
San Marcos Mayor Rebecca Jones also attended, highlighting economic development activities in her city, including collaboration with the developers of North City (Sea Breeze Properties), the opening of the San Marcos Creek Project, and the completion of the Via Vera and Bent Avenue Bridges that connect Northern and Southern San Marcos. The council was also happy to have Mayors John Franklin of Vista and Dane White of Escondido in attendance.
Chairman’s Dinners are invitation-only events limited to SDNEDC-investors and special guests rotated around the region. We aim to limit attendance to no more than 40 individuals, allowing for meaningful interactions and ensuring that those present are primarily C-Suite executives or other key personnel within their organizations. The next Chairman’s Dinner is tentatively scheduled for mid-April and likely in Oceanside. To learn more about these events and how you can get involved in the council’s activities, contact W.
