Pollster John Nienstedt shared the election predictions, the results, and the results’ implications for California’s 49th Congressional District (which includes North County San Diego and South Orange County) with SDNEDC’s Lunch & Learn attendees last Wednesday.
Nienstedt praised the state for its efforts to create multiple polling options over a long period of time. “California does a really good job of trying to get everyone’s voice heard,” said Nienstedt.
Political Careers
For those who are watching political careers, be on the lookout for Jordan Marks-R, who ran against Barbara Bry-D for San Diego County assessor-recorder-clerk. Marks remains ahead of Bry in the race and is predicted by Nienstedt to win.
“Jordan Marks is a political animal. He works hard. He worked for Joel Anderson, and if you work for Joel Anderson and you pay attention, you get a master class in how to block and attack politically. And [Jordan] was genetically predetermined to be a politician,” said Nienstedt.
A “Purple” Region
Ultimately, the district’s board makeup remains the same, still three Democrats to two Republicans.
“There is a real possibility that there will be a nudging toward the Republican side. The Assembly and Congress will remain Democratic. Locally, it’s no longer red. It’s purple,” said Nienstedt.
John Nienstedt earned his master’s degree in political science from SDSU with an emphasis in social science research.
John is a featured speaker at campaign seminars and is frequently called on by the media and other organizations to shed light on political and polling issues. He has written articles for the U-T San Diego and Campaigns & Elections magazine. John is a member of the Insights Association and the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR), presenting papers at three AAPOR conferences. John received the SBA’s Entrepreneurial Success Award for 2000. He is Mexican on his mother’s side, a native San Diegan and an avid baseball player and fan.
John’s specialties include questionnaire design and script writing, project development, data analysis, focus group moderation and analysis, sampling and dial-testing using Perception Analyzer.
