With a long-standing presence in North San Diego County, manufacturing represents a wide variety of businesses throughout the region. Producing high-quality goods for hobbyists, athletes, scientists, and households, the industry continues to prove its resilience as the region experiences growth in demand, jobs, and industrial space.

San Diego Regional EDC conducted a study to quantify the importance of Manufacturing in North County. Significant findings included an $18B impact on the local economy from 813 firms that employ over 40,151 jobs. Over the last five years, the sector grew 15%. Despite automation and globalization, the local industry is anticipated to continue growing.

Every year SDENDC hosts a Manufacturing and Engineer Career Expo to assist in future workforce development. In 2020, the Council collaborated with educational leaders and local firms to create a virtual and interactive experience that would appeal to students. The online learning tool introduced students to North County companies and insights into the manufacturing and engineering sectors in the region and career path options.
